The A1/A3 certificate is the basic drone pilot certificate required for all operators of drones over 250g. The A2 certificate is an additional qualification that allows you to fly closer to people (as close as 5m in low-speed mode). You need to have A1/A3 before you can take the A2 exam.
Yes. Both the A1/A3 and A2 certificates are issued under EASA regulations and are valid in all 27 EU member states plus Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland. You can take the exam in any EASA member state.
The A1/A3 exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions, while the A2 exam has 30 questions. You need to score at least 75% to pass. Our exam simulation mode mirrors these exact conditions with a countdown timer.
This depends on your country. Several EU member states now offer online A2 exams, including Germany (since June 2025), Spain, and the Netherlands. Other countries still require in-person examination. Check with your national aviation authority for the latest options.
Yes. Both the A1/A3 and A2 certificates are valid for 5 years from the date of issue. Before your certificate expires, you'll need to pass the exam again to renew it. Our app is perfect for refreshing your knowledge before renewal.
